About the methodology

Belbin's Team Role theory is one of the most widely used models in the field of team management. The research began in 1969 when Meredith Belbin and colleagues at Henley Management College started systematically studying the behavior of participants in management games.

Over nine years, hundreds of teams were analyzed and consistent behavioral patterns determining team effectiveness were identified. Originally eight roles were identified, and in 1988 a ninth role, the Specialist, was added.

The model is actively used in business consulting, HR practice, and education in over 40 countries worldwide. Its scientific validity has been confirmed by numerous studies published in leading journals of organizational psychology.
