Enneagram Triads: The Three Centers of Intelligence
Each of the nine Enneagram types belongs to one of three triads - centers of intelligence. This isn't about IQ. It's about which "brain" you use by default to process reality: through emotions, analysis, or bodily sensations and instinct.
Heart Center (Emotional Triad)
ShameTypes 2, 3, and 4 process the world through emotions and relationships. The key theme is identity and self-image. The core emotion is shame ("I'm not good enough as I am").
Head Center (Intellectual Triad)
FearTypes 5, 6, and 7 process the world through analysis and planning. The key theme is security and predictability. The core emotion is fear ("the world is dangerous, and I must be prepared").
Body Center (Instinctive Triad)
AngerTypes 8, 9, and 1 process the world through bodily sensations and instinct. The key theme is autonomy and control. The core emotion is anger ("the world isn't the way it should be").
